Any Telegram user can make stickers: Telegram builds the pack and gives you a link to it. The hard part is not uploading but the file requirements: every format has its own size, length and weight. Here is how to make stickers step by step that Telegram accepts and people actually want to use.
Three kinds of stickers
- Static. A plain PNG or WEBP image. The simplest option: draw in any editor and upload.
- Video stickers. A short WEBM video. Good for complex graphics, effects and animation made in a video editor.
- Animated (TGS). Lottie vector animation saved in Telegram’s format. The sharpest and lightest, smooth at 60 frames per second, but made only in vector.
A brand’s or channel’s own pack is usually TGS: it stays sharp on any screen and weighs several times less than video. The format is covered in detail in the article about TGS.
Telegram's requirements
| Format | Size | Length and frame rate | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| Static PNG, WEBP | one side exactly 512 px, the other up to 512 px | none | an image |
| WEBM video | one side exactly 512 px, the other up to 512 px | up to 3 seconds, up to 30 frames per second, no sound | up to 256 KB |
| TGS animation | 512 × 512 px canvas | up to 3 seconds, 60 frames per second, looped | up to 64 KB |
Video is encoded in VP9, and TGS bans some After Effects features: expressions, masks, layer effects, images and 3D layers. You can check a finished TGS in our free tool: it shows the animation and marks everything Telegram will not accept.
How to make a sticker pack
- A character and a list of emotions. Decide who the pack is about: a mascot, a logo, the channel’s character. List the situations in which people will reply with it: «hi», «thanks», «agreed», «waiting», «haha». A good start is 10 to 20 stickers.
- Sketches. Draw all poses in one style, with the same line weight and one palette. Check that each sticker reads at the small size in a chat.
- Artwork in the right format. A PNG with a transparent background is enough for static stickers, TGS needs vector and animation, video needs a WEBM export.
- Upload through @Stickers. Open the @Stickers bot, send the command for your format (static, video or animated), pick a name, then send the files one by one, each with the emoji it is linked to.
- The pack link. At the end the bot asks for a short pack name, which becomes a link like
t.me/addstickers/name. Pin it in your channel and share it.
You can add stickers to the pack and reorder them later through the same bot.
Stickers for a channel or brand
For a pack that builds recognition instead of sitting in a couple of people’s favourites:
- One character, one style. From the first sticker people should know whose pack it is.
- Phrases and emotions from the channel’s life. Your audience’s memes, sections, greetings. In the Gunwest pack, for example, the character repeats the artist’s recognisable poses and lines.
- Animation. A moving sticker gets noticed more often than a static one.
- An announcement. A post with the pack link, a pin, a short video previewing the stickers.
What a custom sticker pack includes
When we make stickers, the work covers the character or mascot, the list of emotions, drawing and TGS animation within Telegram’s rules, uploading the pack and the character’s source files. We name the price after a short brief. An example of a big pack: 27 stickers with a Viking and 24 rune emoji for Skandinav WRC.
